Performance Attire
Students must wear the appropriate concert attire for each performance. This includes wearing a lot of black & white...Ms. Swallow is not emo, black & white attire is industry standard for professional musicians. Being out of dress code will cost you performance points. Students who need help acquiring Concert Attire might be able to borrow from the CMMS Music Department. If you or your student needs help finding appropriate attire, please contact Ms Swallow directly.
If you have clothing appropriate for Concert Attire that you no longer can wear, please consider donating it to the Music Department -- email Ms Swallow for more information.
Please acquire the following items (beg, borrow, but do not steal...unless it is the night before the concert)

GIRLS
~ White shirt
~ Black skirt (longer is better on stage) ~ Dark dress shoes (no sandals or filp-flops). Make sure they are comfortable...really high heels may look nice, but are completely impractical for choir performances ~ Nylons or hose...sheer black is best (bare legs on stage look like bare legs) |
BOYS
~ White dress shirt (with buttons and a collar)
~ Dark dress slacks (black is best) ~ Dark dress shoes and dark socks (socks match either the color of your pants or the color of your shoes...NO WHITE!) ~ A tie (hopefully you know how to tie it as tying a tie lies outside of Ms. Swallow's skill set -- here is a video to help you) |
Degrassi Junior High Moment:
As we enter middle school, we experience many changes physically. During puberty, the apocrine glands found underneath our arms become active...we sweat much more in many more than we did as cute elementary school kids. All this sweat combines with bacteria on our bodies to create some pretty funky smells.
Why do we need to discuss this NOW?!
Because...it gets really hot when you are performing under stage lights. Heated up BO smells a billion times worse than room temperature BO. You can do your part by showering with soap regularly (like daily...), making sure you wash your concert attire so that it is clean when you wear it (ask your mom to show you how...you're old enough to learn how to do laundry!), and by using deodorant or antiperspirant religiously (when Ms. Swallow became a junior high student, Ms Swallow's mom started giving deodorant as gifts...Cmas stockings with pez and deodorant, Easter baskets with chocolate eggs and deodorant, birthday cake with deodorant on the side). Also, don't forget good oral hygiene (the more you know...)
